The Kite Runner

By Megan Thomas

A devastating story of intensity, love, betrayal and friendship, causing mental, emotional conflict for the reader along with the characters. I have Khaled Hosseini’s other novel in my TBR pile, A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Amir, the son of a rich Kabul merchant who is a member of the ruling Pashtuns, is unlikely best friends with his servant, Hassan. But amidst the excitement while the boys partake in the Afghan tradition of kite running, Hassan becomes a victim of a terrible crime, of the socio-political distress of the monarchy. Instead of helping his friend, Amir chooses to run away. Years later, Amir is trying to find atonement for his childhood mistakes.
